Stockport Homes Launch Greenspace Strategy

Stockport Homes Green Space Strategy aims to develop a network of high quality green spaces in partnership with customers and stakeholders. To enable this Stockport Homes Sustainability and Green Space team are supporting a range of green space groups to bid for and successfully secure external funding to deliver range of projects. 

“Too Bee or not to Bee” is a project with Dial Park Allotment Association to secure Forever Manchester (The Community Development Foundation for Greater Manchester) to purchase hives, colonies of bees and British Bee keepers Association qualifications to give them a good start. The group have also used their skills to “re-home” a swarm of bees and with a donated hive they now have around 150,000 bees and three hives on site. The group have produced their first “Dial Park” honey which has been sold to help raise funds for the group.   

Stockport Growing in Partnership Project a voluntary group based in Woodbank Park, providing training support is supporting Stockport Homes to deliver a range of horticultural courses as part of a “skills for life” programme. A successful funding bid was made to Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund and the Big Lottery Awards for All fund to re-skin two large poly tunnels and from Forever Manchester to install rainwater recovery and storage using the newly covered roof.    

The Friends of Tangshutt are a group who of volunteers who campaign to improve their local green space “Tangshutt Field” with support of Stockport Homes, Stockport MBC, Groundwork Trust and Mossbank Homes recent successes have been grants from Veolia Environmental Trust to install outdoor gym equipment on a footpath leading from the green space to a local primary school.  

More recently over £70,000 from “X Marks the Spot’ and partners to install a new play area with work to be completed by March 2015 in time for a grand opening in Easter 2015.   If you would like further information please contact Jo Cole (Sustainability Manager) or Mark Rodgers (Funding Officer).
